Customers say staffing is key to addressing provider business concerns

In the years that Optum360 has been asking customers about their greatest concerns, the ability to find and keep qualified staff has always been near the top, along with getting adequate reimbursement from payers. This year, that trend continues but with a slightly new dimension. The concern about staffing is at its highest, while at the same time providers are linking staffing shortages to their ability to perform in other key areas, such as their ability to control costs or comply with rules and regulations.

The Optum360 survey asks providers to rate their view of six factors. In addition, responders are also asked for comments. In these comments, survey responders have taken time to point to the foundational role of two factors: reimbursement, which is necessary to hire staff, and the ability to find and keep qualified staff in accomplishing the remaining factors.

Almost all providers of healthcare face the challenges noted below. How do you view these concerns today as compared to a year ago (Fall 2015)?
